Thanks to Dee Slater's creativity, I just had to case her "Home" sign made in a 5 x 7 inch frame. The letters are made from the Large Letter Dies and raised up on black craft foam also cut with the dies using my Big Shot, then glued together with the green bottle of Tombow liquid adhesive. Another idea I came up with was to use Fast Fuse to adhere my horizontally scored at 1/2" Whisper White thick cardstock to the "glass" of the frame. If you happen to purchase a frame from IKEA you can do the same thing with their acrylic "glass." No need to throw anything away.
If you have a spare thin stamp case or DVD case, that will be a great way to store your monthly magnets.
How I changed and expanded on her magnets is I decided each magnet needed it's own "O" base, so I used a scalloped oval framelit (for most of the magnets) which helped a lot as I designed monthly magnets for my frame. I used self adhesive magnet sheets from Silhouette that I purchased at your favorite big box craft store. They provide the flexibility to cut your own sized magnetic squares that lay flat, compared to rolls of magnetic tape.
I'm offering a class on this project and am allowing my customers to select and customize their choice of magnets and some ink colors. I've had a really great response.
This project is also a great way to go back through your stamp collection to find just the perfect designs to use for each month.
P.S. You can also make a "Welcome" sign using as small as a 5 x 9" frame, but is a little more of a squeeze. It still turns out beautiful however.
Enjoy!
