This Five Strip Technique Makes Easy Christmas Cards by the Dozen. A Great Way to Use Up Your Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper Scraps
Scraps, scraps, scraps everywhere! No matter how you slice up your pretty papers, there always seems to be a variety of strips left. What to do with them?
This Five Strip Technique is the perfect solution for your Holiday cardmaking. Or really it is perfect to do anytime of the year. Oh, my mind is seeing all sorts of pretty cards this technique will produce.
It is super easy to do!
Gather up your scrappy strips and trim a bunch down to 3/4" x 5".
Prepare two pieces of Basic White or Very Vanilla layers cut 4" x 5-1/4".
With the cut layer in portrait mode, grab a ruler and pencil to make a small tick mark - 1-1/8" down the left side from the top left corner. Make another tick mark 1-1/8" up on the right side from the lower right corner.
Start laying down your strips in a pleasing color combination (no glue yet.) Notice in the photo above that the top red strip goes from the 1-1/8" tick mark on the left side and meets up with the upper right hand corner. Then it is the same for the bottom green strip starts at the lower left corner meets up with the right side at the 1-1/8" tick mark.
Glue the top and bottom trips down with ends hanging off the edge of the cardstock layer. The remaining three strips are glued down and evenly spaced apart in the remaining area with ends hanging off the layer. Let the glue/adhesive dry for a little bit, then with your paper snips trim off the excess parts of the strips that are hanging over the layer. Don't save those, in the trash bin they go.
Now depending on what colors you are using, make a normal card base 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4" to adhere your strippy layer too.
Then the rest is up to you! Choose a punch or die and make a tag for the card front, add a stamped greeting layer. Adhere those two layers together, then raise up off the card front with dimensionals.
Add embellishments of your choice.
The extra piece of Basic White or Very Vanilla goes inside your card, which you can stamp with another sentiment if you'd like.
Decorate your exterior envelop flap with a coordinating piece of patterned paper 2-3/8" x 6" and trim off the excess. Voila! A gorgeous Holiday Card for you to give or mail.
Shown below is another fun technique. Stamp your sentiment twice in two different inks on scraps, then fussy cut the second color words into pieces and adhere to the first color. The result a fun pop of color done quite easily. It makes your card look very classy!
I hope you'll give this Five Strip Technique a try. It goes very quickly in assembly line fashion when you have a bunch of strips prepared ahead.

Match Stampin' Up!s Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder, Boughs of Holly Designer Series Paper and the Flag Fun Fold for This Trifecta of Perfection You'll Be Proud to Give
Do you have a little extra time on your hands and are looking for a creative challenge? Do you want ain show stopper card you can make and give? If yes, then today I present you with this beauty!
The combination of the Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder, the rich colors of the Boughs of Holly Designer Series Paper (DSP) and the inside surprise of the Flag Fun Fold, can't be beat! Let's see how it is made!
The Card Front is built on a Real Red 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" (scored at 4-1/4") cardstock base. The Basic White 4" x 5-1/4" front cardstock layer is embossed inside the Merriest Frames Embossing Folder and adhered directly to the cardbase. Next, cut a Real Red cardstock piece 2-1/8" x 2-7/8" and adhere to the inside of the vertical rectangle left plain by the embossing folder. Cut a 2" x 2-3/4" piece of the large poinsettia paper from the Boughs of Holly DSP and adhere to the Real Red rectangle in the card center.
Fussy cut out one smaller poinsettia image from the Boughs of Holly DSP and raise it up on Mini Dimensionals. Stamp your choice of sentiment in Real Red ink on a scrap of Basic White and fussy cut out. Raise your sentiment up on Mini Dimensionals also. Embellish the small poinsettia with three Pearl Jewels.
Here comes the FUN part!
Start with a 10" x 5-1/4" piece of Basic White cardstock. Score on the long side at 2", 3", 4", 5", 6", 7" 8". Using your bone folder or a clear block edge burnish the Mountain and Valley folds as shown in the photo.
Stamp a greeting in Real Red ink on the far right panel section and adhere that 2" section to the inner right side of the card base allowing for an 1/8" margin on top, side, and bottom. Now completely close your "fun folds" and place adhesive to the back of the far left section. Hold your fun folds closed and close the front of the card base down on top of your fun folds stack. That way you won't accidentally put a twist into your inner folds.
Cut a 1-3/4" x 5" piece of the smaller poinsettias from the Boughs of Holly DSP and affix to the inside left panel like the photo shows.
You are almost done! With a 1-3/4" punch, punch out 3 poinsettia images from the DSP. With a 2" punch, punch out 3 Real Red cardstock circles. Adhere one poinsettia image to one red circle. You will make 3 sets. As you can see in the photos only half of the circle is adhered to the inner folds.
I recommend you start adhering the left side of the first circle unit to the top edge of the first inner fold. Then skip to the third fold and adhere another unit to the bottom edge. Finish with centering the last unit to the middle fold, equally spaced between the first and third units.
If you have done everything correctly your card will open flat so you are able to add your personal message and sign your card.
Don't forget to adhere a 2-3/8" x 6" piece of matching DSP to your exterior envelope flap and trim off the excess. That way you will have created a stunning set to give or send (may required extra postage, FYI.)
I encourage you to try this idea with other holiday papers you may have, just to see the beautiful creations you can make!

Match the Split Textures Dies from Stampin' Up! with their Boughs of Holly Designer Series Paper for a Gorgeous Holiday Card You Can Make Easily!
Running out of Christmas card ideas? Here's a slightly more advanced layout idea for you. These cards go together quickly once you have the little square pieces removed from the Split Card Texture Die shown.
Here's a helpful hint for you. Use a lint tape roller to remove the pieces from the back side of the Designer Series Paper after you have removed the paper from die. Just lightly touch the tacky tape to the cut pieces and they will stick easily to the roller. By using a tape roller, you save yourself some time from having to pick up or vacuum up all those little pieces. I highly recommend one!
Don't forget to make your envelope flap coordinate with your card!
You can be extra clever by cutting your Boughs of Holly Designer Series Paper rectangular piece a little larger, so when you tear it on the diagonal, you'll have two pieces for two cards that way. Use your paper trimmer to fine tune the fit to the die cut layer.
Using the gold trim, I just wrapped it in a circular fashion and scotch taped it to the back of
the punched and stamped tag, then raised the unit up on dimensionals.
If you have some scraps of the Designer Paper, tear a piece for a little pop
of color on the inner layer corner.
Here's all the Supplies used to create this card and you can order

Stampin' Up!s Boughs of Holly Designer Series Paper Can Turn Any Holiday Card into a Masterpiece! Give it a Try!
Are you looking for an easy card layout to copy for some last minute holiday card making?
Here's an idea for you!
All you really need are the Scalloped Contours Dies, then anything else you have in your papercrafting stash will work.
You can substitute any Holiday Designer Series Paper, cardstock and ink colors, background embossing folder, ribbon, and stamped holiday sentiment.
My card was inspired by Stamp with Marsha, but like always, I changed up a few things.
Be sure to add some Designer Series Paper to your envelope flap, as it always makes for a finished look and coordinated set.
The Real Red Scalloped layer uses the second to the largest of the Scalloped Contours Dies. The sentiment tag uses the smallest die in the collection.
Here's all the Supplies used to create this card and you can order
at the links below by clicking on each photo:
Thick Basic White Cardstock
Basic White Cardstock
Real Red Cardstock
Evening Evergreen Cardstock
Real Red Ink
Evening Evergreen 3/8" Open Weave Ribbon
Boughs of Holly 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper
Scalloped Contours Dies
Painted Texture 3D EF
Sentiment from retired Gift Wrapped Stamp Set (use whatever set you like that fits the die cut.)
Happy Creating!
